Painting Your Hard Wood Floors

There was once a period in time in which painting hard wood floors was actually the most fashionable thing to do. From solid coloring to intricate designs hard wood floors were definitely the past way to show off your fashion sense to guest. Now, the trend has almost died down, but if you love the look of a painted floor you can easily get the look without a problem.

The first step in painting your floor is to sand it down. This will allow the paint to hold better while also clearing up scuffs and abrasions in the wood. You will also want to tape off the edges of the room so that you won't get paint on the washboards. Once you're taped off then go around the edges of the room with your chosen primer and a larger paintbrush. This process can be moved to a paint roller once the edges have been finished.

After the primer has dried on the wood you can begin painting with your finish paint, although you might want to make sure you have chosen an oil based paint. Of course, if you intend on doing designs you might want to paint a base coat and then tape off the design area. If you are not then it safe just to paint the edges of the room and move on to a paint roller. Remember to be careful while you paint as you won't have the best pathway to get out of the room. You might want to consider painting half of the room and the resting so you can give part of the room a chance to dry.

Once the floors have been painted you can decide if you need a second coat or not. If not then you wait a couple of days for the paint to set into the wood before you move in furniture and rugs. After you've waited and moved your goods into the room you can enjoy your beautiful floors and show them off to your friends.

You don't have to stress too much over painting your wood floors. The job can be a lot of fun and can really give you some amazing benefits you would have never though possible. So, if you're sick of your old and damaged floors try giving them a make over with a coat of paint!
